The Ducklings Are Here! The Ducklings Are Here!

Once again, the duck families that nest in the Dunning courtyard have returned. Last year we had 3 duck families. This year we have already rescued 3 families.. a total of 28 ducklings.. to the safety of the wetlands in front of Dunning school. Will there be more duck rescues forthcoming? Stay tuned to see.

Gary Mlinac has been leading these duck rescues. With several staff members, they shoo off Mama Mallard and then herd the ducklings into a big box to be safely relocated across the front drive to the wetlands. Gary waits until Mama Mallard, hearing the quacking of her ducklings, head for the wetlands. Then the ducklings are released in view of Mama Mallard.

What has been so rewarding is that while releasing the new broods of ducklings to the wetlands, Dunning ducklings that were rescued earlier can be seen, a LOT bigger and very healthy, apparently welcoming the new family to the neighborhood. Nothing can beat that as a "Thank You"!
