Message from Town-wide PTO

Hello,

While the motion for the highest amount for the schools did not pass, the compromise amount that was recommended by the CFO DID pass which means that the motion by Fincom for almost $2 M less did not need to come up. Part of the agreement with the CFO was that a commission will be set up to make recommendations for the 2012 budget intended to deal with any structural deficits. This makes much more sense as it allows the schools time to make changes in a careful and thoughtful way.

The schools will still need to make $400K of cuts on top of the $5M made so there is and will be pain, but it is far better than closing schools and the other devastating cuts that would have resulted.

Thank you to all who wrote letters and attended Town Meeting – some of you multiple times. You made a difference - I know one parent who talked to a Town Meeting Member who had just ranted against the teachers and got him to change his vote. I am told that your presence was important. You should feel good for what you have done for the children of Framingham.

Thanks,

Kristin Romine
